How to Install Apps on a Samsung Smart TV (Tizen): Step by Step
Samsung smart TVs run the Tizen operating system, which has its own app store. In this guide we explain how to install apps on a Samsung smart TV, how to keep them updated and what to do if the app you want doesn't show up.
Before you start
- The TV must be connected to the internet (Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable).
- Some apps require a Samsung account. You can create one for free on the TV itself or at account.samsung.com.
- Accept the Smart Hub terms and conditions if the TV asks you to.
How to install apps on a Samsung smart TV, step by step
- Press the Home button (the house icon) on the remote.
- Go to Apps in the bottom or side menu, depending on your model.
- Select the magnifying glass and type the name of the app.
- Select it and press Install.
- When it's done, select Add to Home so it's always to hand.
How to update your apps
In Apps, open the settings (the cog icon) and turn on Auto Update. It's also worth keeping the TV itself up to date: Settings → Support → Software Update → Update Now.
How to uninstall or move apps
In Apps → Settings, select the app and choose Delete. To change the order on the home screen, highlight the app, press and hold the centre button and choose Move.
Can you install apps on a Samsung smart TV via USB or APK?
Not easily. Tizen isn't Android, so it can't install APK files. Only developers can install their own apps, using special tools, and it isn't recommended for everyday use. The app I want isn't showing up: fixes
- It isn't available in your country or on your model: each region has a different catalogue, and older models (2016 or earlier) no longer receive some apps.
- Update the TV's software and search again.
- Reset Smart Hub: in Settings → Support → Device Care (or Self Diagnosis) → Reset Smart Hub. The exact menu names vary depending on the model year. You'll need to sign back in to your apps afterwards.
- Check your connection: if the TV has no internet, the store will appear empty.
